Rock Crushers to Help Crush out Cancer – June 2008
Vulcan Rock Crushers participated in the event raising over $8200 to help the cause. The team consisted of Rose Rummel (Team Captain), Kathy Drysdale (Co-Captain), Melissa Deakins, Lisa Phelps, Samantha Spreng, Amy Page, David Rinehart, Carl and Kendall VanHoozier, Dwain Pesterfield, and Martha Steinbeck from Reed Stone. Vulcan was also a “Survivorship Celebration” Sponsor for the Relay for Life donating a $10,000 check from the Foundation.

Vulcan to Sponsor KTA—Rocks & Minerals in Modern Society Teacher's Workshop – June 2008
Vulcan was a sponsor of this year’s Kentucky Stone Association’s – “Rocks and Minerals in Modern Society Teacher’s Workshop” held on June 25.
Melinda Kinsel, Science Lab Teacher at Athens Chilesburg Elementary School (Central’s Adopt-a-School) attended the workshop. The teachers that attended the workshop also had an opportunity to tour our Central Quarry.

Readyville School Visit

Westside Elementary visited our Readyville Quarry on May 24th. Several Vulcan employees were present and did a great job in helping with this event. Kevin McCarty, Geologist West Region, gave a great presentation and answered questions. The children enjoyed the rock samples that he shared with them. James Warden, Plant Manager, conducted the plant tour. Brandon Clemmons, QC Representative, was the cook for the day. Judy Lawson, Plant Clerk, helped with the coordinating. The teachers stated that the students really look forward to this field trip all year and will brag to other students about the trip.
School Quarry Visit

On May 18th, Vulcan welcomed two classes from Sevierville Primary to the Sevierville Quarry. The classes went on a plant tour put on by Kirk Eastin, Plant Manager, Jeff Ogle, Leadman, and Karen Davidson, Plant Clerk, who also took pictures, handed out child hardhats, and assisted with serving lunch to the classes at the plant.
Vulcan's Senior Sales Rep Behind Bars for Good

Jimmy Keathley, Senior Sales Representative, Jackson Area volunteered to be locked up to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy. Jimmy raised over $1000 for this great cause.
Vulcan Cystic Fibrosis Annual Clay Shoot
On April 27th and 28th at the Chilhowie Sporting Range in Maryville, TN Vulcan held their Annual Vulcan Cystic Fibrosis Clay Shoot. This year the shoot raised $125,000 for the cure. There were approximately 340 shooters with around 30 Vulcan employees working the two day event. Thanks to all who participated in this event.
School Quarry Visit

On April 13th, Vulcan welcomed three 1st grade classes from Fairview Elementary in Maryville, TN to the Maryville Quarry. The classes went on a plant tour by Barry Cochran, QC Manager East Region, with Kathy Drysdale, Customer Service Rep taking pictures, handing out child hardhats, coloring books, and assisting me with serving lunch to the classes at Everett Park. Our QC Department also gathered some rocks for the classes to take back to their classrooms for a science experiment.
