What Can We Do For You?
Our commitment to education and
schools is an important part of how we support the communities where we
operate. We are excited about sharing mining, earth science and environmental
education information with classroom teachers and other teaching professionals.
We want our Web site to be a place where you can find useful information
about science in action to share with your students. In this section,
you will find downloadable classroom
activity pages as well as information about touring
our facilities and links
to other sites that offer environmental science information.
Because education is so important to us, we asked teachers
and teaching professionals how we can help with their classroom needs.
We learned, among other things, that:
Teachers want to take students on field trips to
see firsthand how facilities operate;
Teachers would like to have Vulcan earth scientists
and other professionals visit their classrooms;
Teachers appreciate real world connections with
classroom speakers, industry mentors and other resource people;
Teachers are interested in spending a day at a Vulcan
facility to job-shadow a Vulcan professional;
Teachers are interested in professional development
programs that may be offered at Vulcan facilities, at their schools
and on the Internet;
Teachers are interested in partnerships that include
one time financial grants, "in kind" grants, wildlife
habitats, land reclamation efforts and ongoing sponsorships. (For
information on how to apply for funding from Vulcan Materials Company,
please see Vulcan Foundation
for grant making guidelines.)
